Welcome to Anchor Inn

Anchor Inn sits quietly on 16 Belmangate in Guisborough, offering a true escape into an authentic British pub experience. With a solid rating of 4.6, it stands out as a beacon of warmth and tradition amid modern pressures. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time—an intimate bar space no larger than a quaint living room, complete with real fires and cozy nook rooms that invite conversation and camaraderie. There's a timeless charm here, from the olde worlde interior to the recently refurbished toilets, showing a respect for both history and comfort.

The pub’s soul is in its friendly staff and welcoming landlord, who create an atmosphere that feels less like a business and more like a second home. The beer selection, particularly the real ales and stout, receives consistent praise for quality and reasonable prices, though recent price hikes have raised some concerns among regulars. Despite the lack of a kitchen, the absence of food is almost balanced by the relaxed vibe—no background music, no TVs—allowing patrons to connect without distraction.

Anchor Inn is not just a pub; it’s a social hub that revives a bygone era of British communal life. The close quarters foster conversation naturally, turning strangers into companions warmed by firelight and genuine hospitality. For those seeking a traditional, unpretentious watering hole with a spirit as rich as its ales, Anchor Inn remains one of Guisborough’s true treasures. Visitors leave feeling more connected—to the place, to the people, and to a simpler, friendlier time.

The beer is great, staff are friendly, always warm. Great if it did food and had background music, but that helps keeps it relaxed and friendly. One of the best pubs I've ever been to

Brilliant place,, however, haven't been there since lockdown finished, but have been told that the price of ale has gone up 50% to £3 a pint ,, this is not good as you can go down the road and get a pint for. £1.85 , you do the maths,,,

A very friendly pub with great landlord and staff. Olde worlde type interior with real fires and nook rooms with a partial outside seating area with a further beer garden to the rear. No food unfortunately but very reasonable beer prices. The pub also benefits from recently refurbished toilets.

Lovely old traditional pub in quiet location, although they don't serve Guinness the real ale stout was quite nice. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good selection of real ales. If we are ever in Guisborough again this would definitely be one watering hole on my list.

This tiny pub is a portal into a bygone era of British communal life. Step through its doors and into the miniscule bar and you will be warmed not only by the open fire but also by the true friendliness of all those inside. With a maximum capacity of maybe a dozen folk in the main room you will be sat so close to others you will be compelled to chat and make company. With a discouragement of electronics you will find yourself deep in conversation in no time. This is rather a unique experience in 2023 but a welcome one. The beer is totally top notch and the prices very reasonable. I cannot recommend this pub enough. This is Britain as I imagine it used to be. It is not part of a chain. It does not serve generic plates of food. It does not have children dashing about. There is no TV, music or gambling machine. It is great beer, good company and conversation. Every village and town should have one. Brilliant!
